With 40% of consumers spending their summer vacations at home due to rising gasoline and food costs, nearly 90% plan to rent at least one DVD movie, according to a new survey released by Redbox kiosk rental service.

The online survey of 1,076 consumers found that while 20% covet the July 18 theatrical release of Batman: The Dark Knight, 22% of consumers aged 18-to-34 plan to rent Jumper and 40% aged 35 and older eye The Bucket List.

Among “chick flicks,” Fool’s Gold; Definitely, Maybe (36%); and The Other Boleyn Girl (28%) topped the list.

The survey found that 26% of family respondents consider staying home for pizza and a movie a favorite activity compared to 28% for couples.

More than 51% still considered dinner out and a theatrical movie their favorite date activity.
